Presentation

After living for many years in Switzerland, on the slopes of Lavaux, a wine region in the canton of Vaud, Celeste Bento and her family decided to return to their origins in Lafões.

Inspired by their experiences and passions, they decided to start planting vines at the end of the 90s.

Over several years of work, acquiring experience, “savoir faire” and defining a wine profile, the Lugar do Gato wine brand, whose brand is precisely the iconic mattiarch cat Pintas, was born in 2021.

Located in the Lafões region, in the municipality of São Pedro do Sul, Quinta do Gato has an area of 2.5ha of vineyards located on terraces at 320m. high altitude, on the sunny slope of the Troço River, a tributary of the Vouga River and a few kilometers from the largest spa in the country.

Around 20 years ago, its owners invested in a vineyard with red varieties, namely Touriga Nacional, Jaen, Tinta Roriz and Alfrocheiro.


On the edges, where a variety of white varieties predominate (Bical, Dona Branca, Fernão Pires, Arinto, Uva Cão and Malvasia Fina), old vines dating back more than half a century have been preserved.

The sun exposure and proximity to the river generate a very peculiar microclimate, which favors the ripening of the grapes, capturing all the characteristics of its terroir.

António Pina has a solid background in oenology and viticulture, with years of experience in the wine industry. His career includes several roles in renowned wineries, where he acquired in-depth knowledge about wine production and the best practices in the sector.

At Quinta do Gato, António Pina applies his expertise to produce high-quality wines that represent the Lafões terroir. He is responsible for supervising all stages of production, from harvesting the grapes to aging and bottling the wines. His attention to detail and their commitment to quality are evident in every bottle produced.

He believes in the importance of respecting the region's winemaking traditions while incorporating technological innovations to improve the quality of the wines.
